Urvika was the only 2nd grade student to participant in our Multicultural Day representing the country of India. She danced beautifully and is very talented! We saw both of her fabulous dance performances. I am so proud of you Urvika. I wish I could dance as gracefully as you.
Check out her dance and some of our other cultural performances represented at Robertson Elementary below!
We started our unit of measurement with learning about feet.
We read the book, "How Big is a Foot?" Then we got to experiment making a 6 ft by 3 ft bed for the queen.
We learned that:
if you use your own foot to measure with, then everyone's bed is a different size. This is why using our own foot is not an accurate measure of a foot because everyone has different sized feet.
AND...
a foot is 12 inches long or a ruler length.
And
a good benchmark for a foot on our body is from our elbow to our fist.
When then experimented measuring with square units to find the area of a object.
We learned that:
you have to measure all the space inside the figure. If you forget any space then you will not have an accurate measurement.
area is measured in square units.
it is very important to measure with the same unit or your measurement will be off.
Students were greeted this morning by FC Dallas' Soccer player, Kevin Hartman, who was promoting FISD night at the FC Dallas Stadium. Students enjoyed wearing their FC Dallas shirts to show their support and getting the star goalkeeper's signature.
