We read the book, "How Big is a Foot?" Then we got to experiment making a 6 ft by 3 ft bed for the queen.
We learned that:
- if you use your own foot to measure with, then everyone's bed is a different size. This is why using our own foot is not an accurate measure of a foot because everyone has different sized feet.
- a foot is 12 inches long or a ruler length.
- a good benchmark for a foot on our body is from our elbow to our fist.
When then experimented measuring with square units to find the area of a object.
We learned that:
- you have to measure all the space inside the figure. If you forget any space then you will not have an accurate measurement.
- area is measured in square units.
- it is very important to measure with the same unit or your measurement will be off.
