What can you make with a cup, piece of string, paperclip, sponge, and water?

This is what the 2nd Graders came up with...

DUCKS!!!!

Still don't believe it...hear for yourself!!

Yes...You heard that right...a DUCK!!!

So, how is this possible????

To make the sound you can use a damp sponge folded in half. Clamp it together around the string and slide it down the string. The cup acts like a megaphone echoing the sound. To make the quack louder you add more pressure when gripping the sponge. To make the sound softer, loosen your grip on the string.

We found that you can also lick two of your fingers and pull down on the string with quick bursts of force and it will also sound like a duck.

I apologize in advance for the new noise added to your home! =)

Soccer Boys!!!

This weekend I watched Daniel and Will play soccer! Check the Tigers out!!

I took some videos but they were all sideways. How is that for a novice camera girl! I learned my lesson. =)

I tried to go watch Trace play football, but as soon as I pulled up I heard the Tornado sirens!! Sorry Trace! I will try to come watch you again another time!!!

Football Players Keith Davis and Clarence Lee visit Robertson!!!

Keith Davis and Clarence Lee talked at our Red Ribbon Week Assembly. The football players talked to us about making good choices because the choices we make today will affect the rest of our life. Taking drugs is NOT a good choice!! They showed the kids the affects drugs have on the body and identified when the biggest problem occurred.

Mr. I is taped to the wall!!!

If your kids came home and told you that Mr. I was taped to the wall...believe them...because he was!!! If Robertson sold over 1,500 books at the book fair, Mr. I agreed that he would be duck taped to the wall. Robertson students came through selling 1,618 books. WOW!!! WAY TO GO!!

Science Night at Robertson!

Science Night is a free event for children of all ages! Different stations were set up for you to enjoy and experience the world of science.

I was at the Balancing Acrobats station all night.

The challenge was to balance the acrobat on the tip of your finger or on top of a pencil.

Do you think you can do that?

                       Several tried ...

                                 and all were successful!

So how does this work?

The acrobats had pennies in each hand. Gravity was pulling the acrobat down from its hands, so the centerpoint or fulcrum was the acrobats nose. The acrobat was balancing on his nose. Once you found this out, balancing the acrobat was a piece of cake! Amazing huh????

If you missed Science Night this year, make plans to attend next year! We had a great time learning cool stuff about Science!

Future Engineers Working Together to Design a Bridge

Your students were given these materials to create a bridge: index cards, clay, playdoh, straws, clear tape, duck tape, string, and paper clips.

They had to use at least two different materials to create a bridge.

The goal was to create a bridge that would hold the most weight. They had a blast!!!

Look at what they created!!!

AND.....THE WINNER...HOLDING 130 GRAMS...IS....

TRACE, How did you design the winning bridge?

Little Elm Fire Clowns come to Robertson!!!

Fire Clowns: Kevo, CoCo, Pip

The fire clowns taught us a lot on Friday. Kevo, CoCo, Pip and Jose made learning fun! The kids thought the clowns were funny and cool!!! They loved to watch them dance and be silly.

They taught us to:

Jose and Pip telling us about life jackets!

1. Always swim with a buddy and wear a lifejacket.

2. Treat others the way you want to be treated and you will NOT be a bully!

3. Do not touch or open unlabeled containers. TELL an adult. It could be poisonous.

4. The ABC's of any emergency:
      Always
      Be
      Calm

We look forward to seeing the fire clowns again real soon!
