How many seeds are in a pumpkin?

This book told us that the size of the pumpkin does not tell which pumpkin will have the most seeds. But, what matters is how orange the pumpkin is and how many lines it has on the pumpkin. Each line represents a row of seeds.

Our mission was to test this theory out while practicing place value counting.

Sorting out the seeds from the goop!

2's Club

10's Club

5's Club

10's Club 2 - We made groups of 10 first
and then combined them to make hundreds.

We combined seeds into groups of
5 first and then 100's to make it
easier to find the total.

1st we made groups of two,
then groups of 10, and then 100's.

Final Count of pumpkin seeds:

2's Club: 190
5's Club: 301
10's Club: 437
10's Club 2: 423

The pumpkin with the most lines did have the most seeds, but it was the lightest orange color and the biggest pumpkin. I go with the book is half right. =)
